National Chocolate Cake Day

Did you know that today was National Chocolate Cake Day?  I did and I was thrilled!  I mean, really, it's two of my favorite things combined...chocolate and cake.  And since I had to go do my grocery shopping this morning, I figured I just had to buy this super scrumptious mini-cake for me and Zach to split after dinner tonight.

Looks great, doesn't it?!?  And what do you need with your chocolate cake?  A little bit of humor.  While I'm sitting here typing this post, all I can think of is Bill Cosby and his chocolate cake monologue.  If you haven't seen it, you really need to click here to watch the video.  It's hysterical!!!  ♪♫♪♫♪♫ "Dad is great!  Give us the chocolate cake!"  ♪♫♪♫♪♫

Happy eating!  :)

Pattern of the Week - January 26, 2013

We've been struck with more crappy, snowy weather here in N.E. Ohio.  I guess unfortunately it's what I have to expect each year.  With all the snow I wasn't able to take my normal Saturday morning walk with my sister outdoors, we had to go to the indoor mall this morning where we can walk for free.  And as I was outside shoveling out the bottom of my driveway from where it was plowed in overnight, I was thinking about living somewhere warm, preferably near a beach.  Thought this was a perfect pattern to go with my thoughts today.  Hope you enjoy!!  Oh, and if you're interested in buying the kit, just click the photo to go to the listing.  :)

EtsyNEAT January Challenge Submission

As the winner of the October/November EtsyNEAT Creative Challenge, I got to pick the theme for the December/January challenge.  I decided on "winter sports" as the theme.  I even had a great new silhouette that I was going to do the pattern for and use the model of my stitched piece.  In fact the black fabric and aquamarine colored metallic floss I used for my cat silhouette model was s259upposed to be used for this challenge.

Alas, how things change.  I picked up issue #259 of CrossStitcher Magazine and was enjoying thumbing through it when I got to the cute series they did of this Eskimo girl, some penguins and a polar bear.  I instantly knew I had to stitch the Eskimo girl.  I mean ice fishing is a "winter sport" (at least in my view) and I even had a package of Charles Craft Grasshopper fabric already in my stash...the perfect fabric to use!!

The only thing I would have done differently, and am kicking myself for not thinking of it until AFTER I had the piece completely stitched and "framed" in the hoop, is I should have used some opalescent blending filament, similar to the ribbon I used, in with all the white stitching for the snow to make it pop off the fabric a little more.  Maybe the next time.

And of course this piece is for sale in my Etsy shop, so if you're interested in getting it for yourself or as a gift for someone, just click the photo to go to the listing.  :)

Pattern of the Week - January 12, 2013

I think by now everyone knows I consider myself to be a patriotic person.  So when I was browsing through the new section of 123stitch.com I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to feature a lovely black & white version of Old Glory.

Want to add this one to your collection?  Just click the photo to go to where you can buy the pattern.  :)

Italian Witches & Candy???

If you're on Facebook you probably know that you can set up "interest lists".  I have several of them so it's easier for me to find what I'm looking for amongst the hundreds of pages I like.  Of course of my favorite lists is one called "Italia" and is filled with all things Italian; cooking, travel tips, beautiful photography, you name it.

So anyway, I was on my Italia list last night (Sunday) and seeing all these posts & comments about "La Befana".  Not knowing who/what this is, and my desire to learn everything Italian that I can, I had to go look it up.

I found this link explaining who she is.  I may not be a religious person, but I'll gladly start keeping my stockings up for an extra week to see if I get any extra candy it in, lol!  Sooo...I'm a day late and a dollar short, but happy to say I've learned yet another new thing about Italian customs.  :)

P.S.  Post was edited for several typos as I've decided it's probably not good to be typing them after being up more than 18 hours and working a really, really long shift, lol!

Little Hands, Tiny Feet

As promised, 2013 will be a year of more finished gift items and more patterns released.

My first two patterns of the year are ones that I've had in mind and have been playing around with for more than a year.  I've never taken the time to sit down and get past the sketching phase.  I figure 2013 is the year and better late than never.  :)

Basically it's the same pattern, but one in a version for a baby boy and one for a baby girl.  Both of these patterns will be sold in a PDF format.  You can purchase them through either my Etsy shop or you can get them as an immediate PDF download (no waiting for me to send it to you) through my Craftsy shop

They are quick & simple to stitch with only 4 colors and full stitches.  Either one would make a great handmade baby shower gift.

If you have any other themes you'd like to see available as patterns in the future, just let me know and I'll give it a go.

Happy Stitching!

Pattern of the Week - January 5, 2013

I'm not sure what's up that I'm feeling rather nostalgic lately, but this great baseball themed pattern seems to fit right in.  What to find out more about it or purchase it?  Just click the photo.

Let the Stitching Begin!

As I posted a few days ago, I want to take Stitchnmomma in a new direction for 2013.  That new direction includes me doing as much stitching as possible, which is truly my passion.  I figured some custom pieces will force me to do that stitching.  So here's one my first new listings of 2013.

It will be available in 2 different color combinations.  You can have the silver/black/red combo as shown in this picture:

Or you can have the gold/brown/pinkish-purple combo as shown in this picture:

And for those of you that like to stitch your own pieces, there will be a DIY Kit available soon (I just need to put the 1st one together and get pics taken).  The DIY kits will NOT have a painted hoop.  They will include the fabric, floss, needle, plain hoop, button and of course your own custom name pattern.

If you're interested in any of these items, just click the photos to go to the individual listings in my Etsy shop

Happy Stitching!
