Awesome Pumpkins

Tomorrow will be the First of October, which means Halloween is right around the corner.

I have many childhood memories of Halloween parties at school (yeah, they've banned those now as to not "offend" anyone), dressing up for trick-or-treat and of course pumpkin carving.  Each year I used to think I was going to create a masterpiece.  Alas that never happened.  My pumpkins usually looked sad with simple triangle cut outs for the eyes & nose and boxy looking teeth.

Several years ago on the Food Network they had one of their challenge shows with giant pumpkin carvers.  I was completely amazed at what they could do with them.  It got to where I looked forward to the new challenge show each October.

Sadly I'll miss it this year (but love the savings on my cable TV bill!).  Instead I went searching for some other awesome pumpkins on the web that I could share with y'all.  All the photos below are from Masterpiecepumpkins.com.  Hope you enjoy them and why not try something different with your pumpkin carving this year.  :)

Pattern of the Week - September 29, 2012

One of my online stitching friends completed a piece this week called "Royal Thistle Celebration".  I had never seen the pattern before and thought it was gorgeous.  And since I'm always looking for new things I just had to go in search of it and who the designer is.

I found the website of Periwinkle Promises and was having so much fun browsing through all the beautiful kits that were new to me.  I ended up choosing this one as my pattern of the week.  It's called "Spool of Thread Celebration".

It looks as if the charts/kits are only available through local needlework shops, so if you click here, it will take you to a link that lists shops by state where you can find them.  Looks like the closest shop to me is about 45 minutes away.  I just might have to get some of my local stitching friends together for a road trip.  :)

Freebie Friday - September 28, 2012

Here it is, Friday again.  That means the weekend is almost here AND it's time for another free pattern.  Since I've been doing the downloadable patterns I've been getting requests for more of them on a weekly basis, so I'll do my best to accommodate everyone.

Today's is a pattern I designed about 3 years ago as an ornament.  I know it's not quite winter, but it's never too early to start stitching those Christmas gifts and decorations.

You know what to do, just click the picture and download the pattern.  Enjoy!

Woot! Woot! I'm a Winner!

It may not seem like much, but I'm totally psyched that I won the July/August EtsyNEAT Creative Challenge.  If you remember from a past post I used my Electric Owl as my submission.  There's no big check as a prize or anything, but still totally cool that my peers picked my piece to win.

So, what do I get as the winner?  I get to pick the theme of the September/October challenge, which I decided will be "Thanksgiving".  I already have my piece all picked out, but you'll have to wait until October 24th for the big reveal.

Thanks for all your support and cheering me on during these challenges.
